HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies are widely regarded as one of the most effective hazard identification methods, applied across numerous industries. This systematic, structured approach helps identify countless potential risks and operational issues. However, the success of a HAZOP study heavily depends on strong leadership. Without proper guidance, studies can stray from their purpose, turning into mere design reviews or, worse, leading to contractual disputes. This course is designed to provide participants with a solid understanding of the HAZOP methodology and the essential skills to assume the role of a HAZOP Team Leader.
Participants will learn how to lead a HAZOP study, including selecting and preparing a team, choosing nodes, estimating timelines, avoiding common pitfalls, and creating effective reports.
The course incorporates case study examples to focus on the key elements of HAZOP leadership. Participants will actively engage in workshops, taking on the roles of Leader and Scribe to practice guiding a team through the HAZOP process. A proprietary HAZOP software package will be demonstrated, allowing participants to set up a study and apply their knowledge. The course includes a hands-on practical exercise where participants will recreate a full HAZOP study, from preparation to making recommendations for organizational improvements.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
